The art to preserve, present and arrange memorabilia in the form of a book, box or card.
The history of scrapbooking is fascinating. Starting in the 15th century, known as a commonplace book very popular in England and a way of compiling information like recipes, poems, letters and quotations. Like us ladies it evolved from friendship albums (similar to yearbooks) to include forms of journaling that included sketching and the using of memorabilia due to the lack of photo’s, it was not only functional but aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
As photography developed in 1826, it allowed the average person to incorporate photos into their scrapbook. Guess what? Ladies were not the only scrapbook keepers, one of my icons was a scrapbook keeper and scrapbook supply inventor. Mark Twain was not only known as an author but also for carrying scrapbooks on his travels and collected souvenirs, clippings and pictures. So Ladies if hubby complains invite him along to join you on your creative journey.
The scrapbook industry and hobby as known today was started in 1981 by Marielen W. Christensen and her husband A.J. when they published a how-to book “Keeping Memories Alive” and opening a scrapbook store in Spanish Fork.
Invention of computers, software, scanners and digital camera’s has taken scrapbooking to a new step, digital scrapbooking. So even those that hate sticky fingers and scissors can keep a scrapbook and share it online, thanks to the internet.
As I see it, there is no excuse to not be creative. ⚛
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed
by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.”
– Mark Twain
